Old Jail

Pumpkin-Peach Brown Ale

Tasting Notes

Like the ghost that is said to dwell in the Old Jail in nearby Warrenton, Virginia, a pumpkin and peach essence haunts, but does not overpower, our Old Jail Pumpkin Peach Brown Ale.  An aroma of sweet spice and pumpkin pie precedes the body of caramel nuttiness with hints of molasses, roasted brown sugar, and vanilla.  A dissipating smokiness from the Cherrywood Smoked Malt finishes the taste imparting a fresh baked flavor to this unearthly Brown Ale.

About the Name

Flickering orange lights illuminate the corner cell that held the misguided McG.  Several gallons of kerosene and a bit of paranoia combined to land him there for observation after his attempted suicide and the arson of his own home.  Old and infirm, McG defended the mad act by claiming his relations were trying to dispossess him of this abode.  Sadly, the court was unable to move the disturbed McG to more hospitable quarters before he passed away in his cell.  But that was not the last they saw of him, or so the old County records show.  Future inhabitants of the cell claimed in court proceedings to have been visited at night by an old man with a white beard (fitting McG’s description) covetously trying to steal back the bedcovers at night.
